Effective date: 7 July 2026 ยท Applies to the BiteNice mobile app and bitenice.com
BiteNice (“we”, “us”) helps parents check whether foods are appropriate for their baby or toddler. We designed BiteNice to collect as little personal data as possible. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.
Account information. Your email address and a password (stored only as a secure hash). We use these to create and secure your account and to send password-reset emails.
Child profile information, provided by you. Your baby’s first name (optional โ you can use any nickname), date of birth, and any food allergies you tell us about. We use this solely to tailor food-safety guidance to your child’s age and allergies. This information is provided by you, the parent or guardian; children do not use BiteNice or provide information themselves.
Food scan results. When you scan a food, we save the result โ the food name, safety verdict, choking-risk level, preparation advice, and allergen flags โ plus any reaction or note you record, so your food diary works across devices.
Settings. Your guidance region (UK/US) and notification preference.
When you photograph a food, the image is transmitted securely to our server, passed to our AI provider for analysis, and immediately discarded. We do not save your photos to any database or storage, and they never appear in your diary. Only the text result of the analysis is kept.
We share data only with the infrastructure providers needed to run BiteNice, under contracts that limit their use of it to providing services to us:
We process your data to perform our contract with you (providing the app), and on the basis of your consent for the child profile information you choose to enter, which you may withdraw at any time by deleting that information or your account.
We keep your data while your account is active. If you delete your data or account, it is removed from our production database immediately and from backups within 30 days.
Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Passwords are stored only as secure hashes. Access to production systems is limited and authenticated.
BiteNice is intended for use by parents and guardians aged 18 or over. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. Information about your child is entered by you and used only to personalise guidance for you.
If we make material changes to this policy we will update this page and note it in the app before the change takes effect.
BiteNice is the data controller for the data described above. Questions or requests: support@bitenice.com.
